2013-2014 City School Informational Sessions Sign Up
{ Please only sign up for these sessions if you are interested in enrolling your child for the Fall of 2013-2014. If you are interested in a later year there will be opportunities for you to visit the school prior to enrollment. }]

How to get in:
Charter school enrollment is determined by random public lottery (if the number of interested students exceeds the number of spots). At the time of this posting, there were a few spaces left in 7th grade for the 2012-13 school year.

Notable:
  • Small class size—especially in the writing (Language Arts) classes, limited to 14 students. Other classes limited to 24 students (compared to typical LAUSD 30+).
  • "Safe" Culture—an inclusive environment where differences are embraced; embedded on a daily basis in their Advisory Period 4 of 5 mornings per week. Goes way beyond a non-bully policy.
  • Kids have choices: Electives (band, hip hop, fitness, fashion design, school newspaper, visual arts and more) and MAJORS, which are academic interests outside of curriculum (i.e. Speed & Debate, Creative Writing, Theater, Science, Lego Robotics, etc.)
  • Block schedule allows for more time per class in alternating schedules.
  • Foreign language requirement starts in 6th grade—Mandarin, Spanish, Korean, French, Hebrew, German, Latin using LiveMocha online resources.
  • Dress code: school uniform

[From their website: REQUEST/INTENT TO ENROLL AND PUBLIC LOTTERY
Our Public Lottery for the 2013-2014 school year for students wishing to enroll in 6th through 8th Grade will take place on March 4th, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at The City School (1518 S. Robertson Los Angeles 90035). Attendance is not mandatory.
In order to enter The City School lottery, all participants must complete our 2013-2014 Request/Intent for Enrollment form available online or in hard copy in the office. This will be available in October 2012 on our website. The downloadable version of this form will be available then as well. All Request/Intent for Enrollment forms must be submitted by February 25th, 2013.
Within two weeks of the lottery, families will be notified of their enrollment status. Each student offered a space will be required to complete an enrollment packet within two weeks of receiving the letter indicating a spot is available for the student. A similar policy applies to students admitted throughout the school year.]
